昔話　SHIROKURO

“SIROKURO” は私の初めてＣ言語で書いたプログラム（20年前は書けたんだよね～）
当時、Windowsも、もちろんPhotoshopもなく、学校にはNECの98だけがありました。　Photoshopは無かったのですが、ImageMakerという１枚だけフルカラー描画ができて、ペイントができるハードウェアが98につながっておりました。
当時（初めて）制作していたビデオ作品の中に、「ＣＧの背景に立つ写真の女性」のシーンがありました。 が、ImageMakerは１枚しか描画できないので、どうしても合成なんてできない。。。（しかも当時「合成」なんて言葉聞いたこともない）と悶々としながら、写真の背景を白く塗りつぶし、女の人を真っ黒にペイントしていました。　
その時「おっ」と閃いた。(CG*SIROKURO)+(Photo*(1-SHIROKURO))に気が付いた！ 私的には、ニュートンが林檎の落ちるの見た時くらいなセンセーショナルな瞬間！
今で言うところのマスクね！　名前を知らないからSIROKUROと呼んでいた。
メモリー上に、ＣＧ、写真、マスク、合成画の４枚をオープンして、左上のピクセルから順番に(CG*SIROKURO)+(Photo*(1-SHIROKURO))の計算をして新しい画に書き込むだけのプログラム。　でも合成できたのね。　もう大興奮！　このSIROKUROでデジタル合成ができる！！！　世界的発見かも！　くらいの気分でしたが、　結局は、マスクなんて何十年も前から使われてた技術だったんですね～。
ただ、純粋無垢に98と取っ組み合ったその時間は尊いなぁ～と今でも思いますし、いつまでも、そのような自分だけの大発見をしていきたいと感ずる今日この頃です。(takeo)

SHIROKURO is the first programming language I wrote. (I could certainly programming 20 years ago.)
Neither Windows nor Photoshop existed in those days, only thing we had was NEC98.
There was no Photoshop but we had a hardware that was connected to NEC98 called ImageMaker which can draw and paint just 1 page with full color.
In the first video I was working on at the time, there was a scene that I had to describe a women who was standing against the background of CG.
Since I could draw only 1 page with ImageMaker, it was impossible to compound! ( Actually, I had never heard the word ‘Composition’ in those days)
I frustratedly painted the background on white and the women on black.
Then, suddenly an idea flashed into my mind, I realized the method of (CG*black and white)+(1-black and white)!
That was the sensational moment almost the same as when Newton saw the apple fall!!!!
It is what we call now Mask! At the time, I did not the name so I named it SHIROKURO(black and white).
On the memory, opening CG, photos, the mask and composited images, and running the programme which calculated by the formula of (CG*SIROKURO)+(Photo*(1-SHIROKURO)) from the top of the left pixel and painting on the new image.
It was simple but it worked!
I was extremely excited!!!
I can compound by this new formula SHIROKURO!! Isn’t this world level discovery???!!!! I felt almost like that, but actually the technology of mask has been used since thousand years.
I feel that the time that I purely battled with NEC98 is so precious and I want to keep doing this private discovery.
