Because He is blind. He lost his sight in an accident at a young age. What is sense of graphic for him.
He was really cheerful, full of energy. He is programmer for the communication tools for handicaps.
And also manage his own company.
He manipulates the Blackberry small keyboard with his thick fingers. Of cause he can see the display. His only recourse is the voice information.
So I think I know a little, I can help him a lot of things as graphic designer !
I felt that word “Graphic” has been released in the air softly.
「ハロー N」「ハイ、タケオ」
これまで、何度か面会の約束をしていたのだけれど、その度にすれ違っていた Nさんが、旅行から帰った次の日に、僕の住むアパートまで来てくれた。
「タケオは何をしている人？」
僕は、いつも通りごく普通に「グラフィックデザイナーです」と答えた。
でも、その瞬間、その言葉が空中で凍り付いて、一瞬、時間が止まったように思った。
Nさんは、幼い頃に視力を失って、盲目なんです。彼にとってグラフィックって何なんでしょう。
彼はとても快活で、エネルギーに満ちている。会話をどんどんリードしている。
プログラマーとして、ハンディキャップの人が使うコミュニケーションツールを作るのが仕事だ。
社長として、自分の会社を経営もしている。
太い指でブラックベリーの小さいキーボードを使って、情報交換をしている。もちろん、ディスプレーは見えないので、音声情報が全ての要。
よく考えたら、グラフィックデザイナーとして、彼を手伝うことはたくさんできそうだ。
そしてグラフィックという言葉は自然に空中で柔らかく解放されたように感じました。
