I visited to the strange city, which was built by this project called MONUMENTA.
This project marks the eighth time this year 2014, and, is very big solo show of contemporary artist in the Grand Palais in Paris.
In this year, Russian artist Ilya and Emilia Kabakov created huge strange city.
I had feel like we’re worship to the Holy Land of contemporary religion. Or there is reminiscent of Utopia…
It looks as though we’re looking for something religious teaching the meaning of life or the breakthrough of contemporary art in the future.
Audience and we are like a pilgrim in the huge city.

MONUMENTAのプロジェクトにより建設されたSTRANGE CITY(奇妙なもしくは不思議な都市)を訪れました。
今回で8回目の開催となるこの企画は、世界中の現代アーティストから１名が選出され、グランパレの広大な敷地でインスタレーションするというものです。
今年はロシアのアーティストIlya and Emilia Kabakov が真っ白に塗られた巨大な都市を作り上げました。
一つ一つの部屋を巡る中で、この巨大な作品が現代的な宗教の聖地のように思えてきました。もしくはユートピアなのか？
無宗教者になってしまった人々が、人生を生きる意味を求めるように歩き、同じく現代アートが未来の突破口を探しているのかもしれません。
私たち観客は、殉教者のように巨大な都市を練り歩く。
